Bodum Chocolatiere Glass Hot Chocolate Maker/Frother Review

This product was nice while it lasted, but that was less than 2 months.I purchased mine the week after Thanksgiving and used it a few times a week.I always washed it by hand, even though the instructions state that it's dishwasher-safe.However, after about 6 weeks, the plastic piece at the end of the mixing rod cracked in half and fell off, which rendered the product useless since that piece holds the propeller in place.

I e-mailed Bodum's customer service department, explained the problem, and asked them to replace the broken piece.They responded that the piece I needed would not be available for 4-6 weeks.I then told them that I had really enjoyed the product and did not want to be without my newly purchased hot chocolate maker for a month or longer in the middle of winter, when I use it the most, and asked that they send me a whole new Chocolatiere since they could not promptly replace the part that would make mine functional again.They refused, without further apology or explanation.I do not recommend this product (or any Bodum product, due to the poor service they provided).

Now that I cannot use my Chocolatiere, I tried what another reviewer recommended -- a whisk.It works just as well, at a fraction of the cost (and much less to clean).Just microwave the milk in a Pyrex measuring cup with spout, whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar, and pour into a drinking mug!Wish I had thought of that before I shelled out $30.

Frother Review

This thing really works.First, we use to froth milk for our cappuchino.Try this.Inch or two of cold milk.Give it a medium froth. PUt it in the microwave until it almost boils. Now add to coffee.Careful..If mil is almost boiling and you start to froth it may foam all over the place. If you like super froth, add a splash of evaporated mild to the low fat milk..makes a lot more foam with no addl fat.
Iced coffee? Take your concentrated coffee.Add some milk and sugar (better maple syrup)Now froth it then add ice. Say good bye to that Starbucks Frap stuff!!
Try this..glass of orange juice..froth it.Just seems to taste better.
Cold chocolate milk..froth it to just the amount of foam you like. Never tasted better.

Professional Stainless Steel Heat On/Off Froth Au Lait frother Review

This is the first non restaurant device I have tried that didn't over flow when frothing with flavorings or liqueursI have tried around 6 of these and they all overflow either with just whole milk or when flavorings etc. are used.(I have used the European Drinking Chocolate Machine but that's for fairly large buffets or restaurants.)
The Good:
Works well with small or large batches and gets really hot quickly.
Refresh feature works even faster.
Capacity is in a good range for most of us; even a small coffee shop or restaurant
Makes nice hot chocolate with nice froth.
Good for Chaud*, Chai or spiced cider as well as hot chocolate.
UPDATE: Even an eggnog recipe that is OK if you like hot eggnog.Their Cook is too fond of Hazelnut IMHO and I think its better with about a 1/2 oz of Triple sec and 3 oz of brandy along with some Nutmeg and Cinnamon.But I can't really recommend it as all of the Flan mixes I have found havea lot of high Fructose corn sirupFrankly I think that the High Fructose Corn Sirup will be the next trans-fat and should be avoided.
Works well for cold drinks as well.
The spicy froth is nice as a garnish on Fettuccine Alfredo but flops for Toranods.

The Bad:
If you use it with non-fat milk and let he froth really build up it will stay stiff longer; but if you start with more than 2 1/2 cps of milk you will get an overflow onto the counter.Not a big mess but a mess.
The flavor port gets liquid on its bottom and sides so while it works OK for liquids it doesn't work all that well for powders.You need to stop the machine and remove the lid.
Small amount of splatter after removing the flavor port.Lots of splatter if you remove the lid without stopping the machine.
The flavor port is very stiff and needs a little judicious filling down to make it removable.

The Ugly:
Need to remove the top to get froth out.
To get maximum froth you need to run until the machine is almost ready to shut off so the froth will be stiff and not collapse when you add chocolate etc.
Need to run the machine with water between batches and wipe down the outside with a damp towel or sponge.
A bit fussy to clean. The interior of the base may need something likeScotch Brite.
Need to give it a rest after 6 batches.
Noisy (not too bad but it would wake a light sleeper) and vibrates (again not real bad but a surprise).
Can't put in solids that are not grated, ground or finely chopped (can't be used for mulled wine or to make tea.You need to start with tea for chai or the concentrate.)
Pitcher is not bad looking but for formal occasions you need something else for serving.

* Chocolate chaud is the French or Mexican stile Hot Chocolate and is made with water and served with hot milk or cream and sugar on the side , or with Mascarpone cheese floated on top.

I strongly recommend; Hot Chocolate: 50 Heavenly Cups of Comfort;
Ghirardelli Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa Mix, Double Chocolate, 16-Ounce Tins (Pack of 4), also the hazel nut.

I haven't tried it with any coffee as I hate coffee; can smellgreat but isn't even good as a cleanser.

Shin Bistro Milk Frother Review

Does not make enough froth for two cups.Heat milk after frothing and it increases in size but still not enough for two cups unless you are using just a small amount on each.Not as easy to hold on to as the larger one with the handle ( borke the one I had ) which I seem unable to find anywhere.Vendor is trying to find larger one for me, worth shopping this vendor just for the service.

This is a great little frother. It makes enough froth for about two cups of coffee. After a few tries I found out the key to making the best froth. The key is to let the milk get hot (but not boiling) before trying to froth. This way it froths in just a few plunges. FIY only fill it half way up with milk to prevent overflow with frothing! "Faenza" Cappuccino / Milk Frother, 14 Fl Oz/ 0.41 lt Review

Lift your game windummy. windummy is putting too much milk in. windummy is heating the milk too hot. The milk should be heated to only 70 degrees Celsius (158Deg F). As the other poster said, you dont need to look, because it wont be getting anywhere near boiling. You do it by time; microwaves have different power levels so pay attention how long yours takes to get to the right temp. Mine is: half-fill with cold fridge-temp milk 60 seconds, stir (because the top is hotter than the bottom and you might over cook the top), 15 seconds more, then froth it.

You only need to oscillate the froth sieve up and down about 1 inch or less. Start at the top of the milk and as you work the air in, go a little deeper. The bubbles should not be large -- we're aiming for a velvety micro-foam.

You don't need a seal because the creamer mug is only half-full, not boiling, and you are not mashing potatoes. The spillage occurred because you had it too full. Pouring won't spill either if you have it less full, you silly sausage.

A half mug of milky foam only serves two smallish cups of latte. Or one Grande for me!

Remember the cups need to be well heated before the coffee and micro-foam are poured in -- otherwise the temp will drop, and it will seem too cool.
Because the porcelain creamer soaks up heat too, the second lot (in a hot creamer) will take even less time to get to 70 Deg C

BonJour Caffe Froth Monet Milk Frother, Black Review

I got this about a year ago, and loved it. We had the best coffee with this frothe. It was low-tech...you do not need electricity or battery to operate it.

What is the downside? While washing, we lost the screw that hold the frothe together...and since then I have been hunting around trying to find a replacement. I have made several enquiries and it turns out that there is no replacement for this. So, my $20 literally went down the drain with that lost nut.

If you are a careful user, you might consider buying it. I thought I was a careful user too...

This little frother that uses 2 AA batteries works great.I no longer need to go to Starbucks to get good frothed coffee!This is a better design in many ways than the original frother which used 4 AA batteries and had a spinning disc that looked like it could double as a Dremel tool.That one worked well, but if you touched your mug with it, marred the ceramic glaze.

Froth Au Lait Frothing Unit, White or Black Review

For about 5 years I have been searching for the perfect way to get "starbucks style" cappucino at home. Without exaggeration, I have owned:
A miele built in espresso machine with integrated grinder and frothing wand - cost $2600

A kuppersbush built in espresso machine with automatic frothing device - cost $3195

A miele/nespresso built in espresco machine with their special "cappucinatore" cost $2495

A nespresso Aeroccino that is only designed for frothing a tiny amoung of milk - cost $100.

As a custom home builder, I have tried out a lot of products, and obviously, my coffee is important to me.So important...that in 10 years of internet shopping, I have NEVER written an Amazon review...except for this Froth Au Lait Product.So that should tell you how strongly I feel about it.

First of all, it only costs about $50, so how could it be any good I thought? I was skeptical, but for $50...I thought I might as well try it.

Well...let me tell you, this thing is probably the most amazing appliance I own.I have made countless batches of frothed milk in this device, and it not only heats the milk perfectly, but it gives a froth like I have never seen before. You can literally make the froth stand up above the mug...and you can make multiple cups at one time!There is no need to only use 1 1/2 oz of milk like the twice the priced aeroccino!This thing makes multiple servings, and the froth lasts forever.I have a cup of coffee sitting here that I made over 1 hour ago, and it still has froth!!

Not only is this product amazing, the price beyond belief, but on top of all that...there customer service is 2nd to none. I had a simple question about a frothing method, so I emailed froth au lait, and within a couple of hours, they actually called me!!! That never happens.

DO NOT buy the nespresso aeroccino instead of this. (or..actually just email me, and I will sell you mine, since it will never be used again)

Also..I am a custom home builder who has been in business for 15 years.I have no affiliation with this company, and don't even really know where they are located. (I am telling you this because sometimes, employees just happen to write "glowing" reviews about their company's products.)

If you like starbucks style froth, spend the $50 and buy this. If you want to spend $100, get less of a froth, and make a mess doing it, get the nespresso product.

Aerolatte Original Steam-Free Milk Frother with Stand Review

Nowadays there is a bunch of these critters on the market, but I had to do quite a search a few years ago when I was looking for a low-budget way to make my coffee taste as good as the high-priced yuppie places, and didn't feel I could spring for a three-hundred dollar machine. Sho 'nuff, I got one of these Aerolattes from an online department store. It does just the trick, whether on my freshly-brewed freshly-roasted freshly-ground coffee with at least half hot 1% milk, or on hot chocolate made from powder which is impossible to blend by spoon. Yup, I like it.

I was skeptical whether a little gizmo costing fifteen or twenty dollars could really whip my coffee up the way I wanted, but it does. It is important to wait until you've got the business end in the liquid before you start the thing, unless you like to wear your coffee. The directions say to keep the whirrer just under the surface of the liquid, and I've found that does work. And the batteries seem to last a long time. When it's time for new ones, the whip starts to wobble.

I've had several frothers and this is the strongest, fastest churning frother I've owned. I don't like frothers that have the on/off button as a slider that can't do quick bursts or that isn't on top or where your fingers or thumb naturally fall. This one has the button conveniently on the top and works perfectly for quick bursts.

Aerolatte Stainless-Steel Deluxe Edition Frother with Stand, Chrome Review

I must admit, when I first heard of these immersion frothers, I was very skeptical.I had tried many frothers, cappuccino machines with built in frothers (work great first 2 times, then they always clog) and plunger frothers(can you say carpal tunnel syndrome??) etc.After much time AND much effort, there was very little reward, almost no froth and much frustration, not to mention cleanup.I tried the plunger types repeatedly to the point where I was sure I'd have blisters.Did Imention having to disassemble & clean all the frother parts after?:o)

So began my quest for an easy, effective way to obtain cappuccino style froth for my morning java. I searched java junkie message boards and decided to give the Aerolatte a try.I couldn't have been more amazed and pleased.
This little gadget runs on 2 AA batteries (included) and comes with a metal counter stand so it's easily accessible.I unboxed it and gave it a whirl, seemed sturdy and surprisingly fast. Now for the coffee test.Hmmm.So I brewed a pot (french press) of strong coffee and poured a little half & half in my mug and let 'er rip.All I can say is AWESOME!!I was totally shocked at how quick and easy the Aerolatte whipped it into froth.Seriously, comparable to the froth from Starbucks.I couldn't believe it.

The instructions recommend skim or low fat milk, which also frothed up just as thick and rich.Wow!!!!When you are finished, run the unit under under the faucet or in a cup of water to clean. Incredibly cool that you create the froth right in your coffee mug.Simple as that, no extra equipment to clean.
Be brave, experiment a little.I prefer heating my mug with sugar & half & half in the microwave for 30 seconds, froth for about 30 seconds & pour in coffee. VoilaCoffee house quality cappuccino and no pots or tubes to clean.Pretty spectacular!

Details:Gotta admit, the stand that arrived with mine is cool to look at, very high-tech, but poorly designed & a tad annoying as you need 2 hands to remove the frother or put it back in.Ok, but not ideal.Luckily, Aerolatte must have realized this, as they have since redesigned the stand & replaced with an even cooler (hopefully more functional) design.
The battery life is excellent (at least 4 weeks of daily use), however I would recommend investing in rechargeable batteries and charger, as the unit is much more efficient and faster with strong batteries.
My first Aerolatte burned out after a little over a year of heavy usage.I loved it so much I purchased another.The price is reasonable as my unit was packaged with the unit, stand and matching shaker for toppings (cinnamon, cocoa, etc)

Highly recommended.You will not be disappointed!Bravo Aerolatte

Krups 030 Perfect Froth Milk Frother Review

Krups has been installing a hard plastic cover on the frother wand of their recent models. This technology is neither as effective nor as resilient as the old "perfect froth" attachment. My hard plastic one broke within two weeks, and sending it back to Krups elicited no response at all, so I just bought the "perfect froth" attachment, and it works fine.

Saeco MI-GL-04 Milk Island, 0.4 Liter Review

First of, I used to be a big Saeco fan - I have used them for many years. But this milk island is just junk. As the other reviewers here report, it has a tendency to leak water in copious amounts after a few weeks of use. We actually sent ours in to Saeco (a sheer nightmare) and since we got it back, it does not leak anymore so this can be fixed. Good news, right? Well, if it only would froth the milk it would be great but it doesn't. Occasionally, like every 20th time or so, you get nice frothy milk. The other 19 times you get hot, runny milk with barely a film of froth. This is ridiculous. I have tried every type of milk there is and that doesn't make much of a difference. I will now have to buy one of the cheap little frothers to sit next to my $2,000 Saeco because that machine can't froth, milk island or wand!

BonJour Primo Latte Frother, Rechargeable Includes Electric Base Review

The one bit of very important information that is not stated anywhere (in the description OR in the reviews here, until this one) is that this is no different than any other 2-AA battery powered frother. It simply has 2 PERMANENTLY MOUNTED (non user replaceable) nickel cadmium 1.2 volt 600 ma AA batteries inside of it.

This means that if you store it on the counter in the charger after every use, it will quickly develop the dreaded "memory effect" of nickel cadmium batteries (i.e., if you use it for only one minute at a time before recharging it, the batteries begin to "think" that they only have enough power for one minute).

Since these batteries aren't user replaceable, the item quickly becomes JUNK.

You could get the exact same thing by purchasing a standard 2-AA battery powered frother, then using NiCad AA batteries in it. A better option would be to use nickel metal hydride AA batteries, as those would run at 1.3 volts, and not suffer from a memory effect. They would also hold more power, as 600 ma in an AA is a VERY low standard nowadays. (Most NiMH AA batteries are available at 1800 ma at the lowest and go up to 2900 ma.)

Better yet is to just use a regular 2-AA battery powered frother with regular alkaline 1.5 volt batteries in it, as that will give you the best performance AND have user replaceable batteries. (You could even use lithium AA if you wanted something stronger still.)

Avoid this garbage item.
