When I bought my espresso setup, I already had a beverage thermometer from Sur La Table. I found myself wishing the face of the dial was a little larger and more informative as to where my temperature was, essentially it had a "not there yet" section, a "ready" section and a "too hot" section. Fast-forward, I purchased a few Rattleware items and felt like they were great add-ons to my home coffee bar. So I bought this thermometer as a replacement. The dial has all the markings of my previous, but it also has the temperature marks across the face. Its the perfect size, I can see my milk froth and take a quick glance at where I'm at temp-wise.
The calibration is super easy, you either calibrate the hot or the cold end of the spectrum. I did the hot, then tested the cold and it landed in the right spot! The tool is simple, just a quick rotate with the wrench and you are set.
The clip that holds the thermometer to the pitcher is nice. I grips the thermometer very tightly, you have to squeeze the top 2 metal pieces together to twist or remove the thermometer from the clip. But the clip is not so tight on the pitcher, for example, if you had the thermometer attached to the pitcher and turned it upside down, the thermometer might fall off. But for me that's ok, I keep my thumb on the clip at all times.
